چکیده

introduction: the materials used for root-end filling and perforation repair are in direct contact with live tissues e.g. bone and connective tissue; their effects however, are uncertain. the aim of this ex vivo study was to evaluate the osteoblastic secretory activity adjacent to gray and white mineral trioxide aggregate (mta) and intermediate restorative material (irm). materials & methods: the studied materials were prepared and placed in 24-wells plate. human mg-63 osteoblasts were introduced to materials after their initial set. the supernatant fluid was collected after 1, 3, and 7 days and the level of interleukin-1 b was measured by elisa test. a microscopic exam was also performed to assess proliferation and viability of the cells. kruskal-wallis and tukey tests were used for analysis. results: t here were significant higher levels of interleukin-1 b in the gray and white mta groups compared to irm group (p b secretion level between two mineral trioxide aggregate groups was not significant (p>0.05). morphologic appearance of osteoblasts adjacent to gray and white mta was similar to normal osteoblasts in all observation periods, however cells adjacent to irm were round, signifying cytotoxicity of the adjacent material. conclusion: human osteoblasts’ biological response to white and gray mta is more favorable compared to irm.

The aim of this ex vivostudy was to evaluate the osteoblastic secretory activity adjacent to gray and white mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) and Intermediate Restorative Material (IRM). Setting expansion of gray and white mineral trioxide aggregate and Portland cement.

One possible reason for the sealing ability of mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) is its slight expansion upon setting. Both gray mineral trioxide aggregate (GMTA) and white mineral trioxide aggregate (WMTA) are composed of approximately 75% Portland cement (PC). WMTA differs from GMTA in its lower content of tetracalcium aluminoferrite. This difference in composition may affect setting expansion...

in Vitro Sealing Ability of White and Gray Mineral Trioxide Aggregate (mta) and White Portland Cement Used as Apical Plugs

This study evaluated the sealing ability of apical plugs made of white and gray MTA-Angelus and white Portland cement placed via the root canal and having different thicknesses (2, 5 and 7 mm). Ninety extracted human single-rooted teeth were instrumented using a size 40 K-file to standardize the foraminal opening by the stepback technique. The teeth were assigned to 3 groups (n=30), according t...

Cellular response to mineral trioxide aggregate root-end filling materials.

Endodontic surgical procedures involve the use of a root-end filling material to provide an apical seal and to facilitate the repair and regeneration of periradicular tissues. Whereas earlier studies typically evaluated the cytotoxicity of these materials, contemporary research has focused on their capacity to support a favourable cellular response. In vitro tissue culture techniques have demon...

Removal of White Mineral Trioxide Aggregate Cement: A Promising Approach

Removal of MTA from dentin by applying 37% hydrochloric acid (HCl) to reduce microhardness and push-out bond strength. Forty dentin slices were filled with WMTA and divided into two groups (n = 20). Ten slices remained untreated while others were exposed to either HCl or phosphate buffer saline (PBS) and all samples were subjected to pushout test. The mode of bond failures was determined by SEM...

Mineral Trioxide Aggregate : A Review

The main aim of an ideal retrograde filling material is to seal the pathways of communication between surrounding tissues and the root canal system , hence mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA ) which is a biocompatible and a nontoxic material was developed for dentistry. This material allows normal healing response due to the formation of new cementum and bone. Calcium and phosphorus are the main i...
